CHILDREN got up close with a range of creatures and got to try a Bush Tucker Trial during Deadly Creatures Week at Barleylands last week.

Visitors to the Billericay farm park had the chance to meet more than 60 scary species of creepy critters and take flight with some of the deadliest birds of prey in the world.

Children faced their fears and got up close and personal with slithering snakes, snappy scorpions, clever chameleons and terrifying tarantulas in the Deadly Creatures show.

They also braved the challenge of the Bush Tucker Trial and snacked on a special selection of gruesome grub delicacies, including Frankenstein fudge, creepy crawly crickets and menacing mealworms.

Farm manager Dave Finkle said: “With three interactive reptile shows daily, we showcased more than 100 different specimens of creepy critters throughout the week.

“There was also a chance to see some of the world’s deadliest birds of prey in action.”

Deadly Creatures Week was part of Barleylands Farm’s six weeks of summer activities.

This week is Crazy Entertainer Week, with Skittleman performing shows featuring magic, balloon modelling and mini discos. Next week is Ultimate Inflatables Week, while Treasure Hunters Wanted runs from Monday, August 29 to Friday, September 2.
