FLYING the flag for the London Olympics means free fun and games for children.
Chelmsford Council has announced free sports sessions at its facilities on Sunday August 24, as part of its celebration to mark the Olympic handover between Beijing and London.
Free activities during the day include swimming, ice skating, badminton, table tennis, soft play and climbing, at Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre, Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre, South Woodham Ferrers Lesiure Centre and the Dovedale Sports Centre.
There will also be free athletic sessions for children of all ages, half price squash sessions for people aged 16 or over and half price gym sessions for users who have had a gym induction.
The council is one of the towns that has applied for an Olympic flag for the occasion, to be hoisted by mayor of Chelmsford Tom Willis at 2.30pm on the day.
Councillor Ray Ride, who looks after the borough's leisure and culture, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for lots of children and young people, to experience a wide range of exciting and fun sporting activities for free in the council's sports centres.”
