A CHINESE puppet show is coming to the Maldon district.

As part of the cultural festival organised by Essex County Council to celebrate a 20 year partnership with the Jiangsu Province in China - called the Essex-Jiangsu festival - the Yangzhou Puppet Company will be performing at 2pm on Saturday September 27 at Plume School, Fambridge Road, Maldon.

A series of shows are scheduled to be included such as a Hawaiian belly dance, dance of the long sleeves, traditional fan dance, the fat man and the mosquito, the magical changing faces and the popular ribbon dance.

The puppets will also be painting traditional ink paintings and writing calligraphy to entertain the audience.

A spokesman for the show said: “For over 40 years they have toured their beautifully crafted traditional rod (zhang) puppetry all over the world. The show will charm visitors of all ages and give people a special insight into Chinese folklore and culture.”

Tickets are available from the main reception at the school or by calling Tracey Kent on 01621 854681.
