A 61-YEAR-OLD man suffered an electric shock in a DIY blunder at his home in Shenfield.

Paramedics were called to Priests Lane following an emergency call at about 2pm on Tuesday, September 8.

He was said to have been left traumatised by the ordeal, although he is thought to have escaped serious injury.

He was taken by ambulance to the specialist burns unit in Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford, for treatment to burn on his right arm.

The air ambulance also hovered at the scene for some time, but did not need to land.

Paramedic Tracey Valentine said: “He said he had been using an angle grinder when there was a sudden explosion. He suffered superficial burns to his right arm.

“The hair on his head was singed and his nylon shirt was crispy.

“We took an ECG reading to ensure his heart hadn’t been affected and it appeared to be normal.

“Before our arrival he had run cold water on to his arm, which was the right thing to do.

“We assessed the injury and wrapped the burn in cling film.

“He seemed calm, but was clearly taken aback by what had happened.”

She added: “Fortunately, it looks like he’s going to be fine. Considering how serious electric shocks can be, it seems he’s been very lucky.”
