A FOOTBALL team will be celebrating St George’s Day by raising money for a military charity.

Brentwood Football Club, who play their home matches in the Arena, at the Brentwood Centre, in Doddinghurst Road, have designated their Ryman League match against Cheshunt FC on April 23 as a day to raise money for the military charity Help for Heroes.

All the gate receipts from ticket sales on the day will be donated to the charity, with doors opening at noon, three hours before the kick off.

Entertainment will be provided, with a children’s five-a-side competition being played by local junior team Great Danes, and a barbecue from 1pm.

David Tee, mayor of Brentwood, will be attending, along with the Romford Drum and Trumpet Corps, a 40-piece military band, and other guests.

Robert Dicker, who runs the supporters club and who has been helping organise the day, said the whole event is about bringing the community together and giving money to a worthy cause.

He said: “We are just hoping to raise as much money as we can on the day and as the team are doing well in the promotion race it will be a great day.

“We just need people to add their support and make it a good community day for Brentwood.”

An auction is also being held on the day with lots including a signed England shirt from Sir Trevor Brooking, a West Ham United shirt from Julian Dicks and a signed Tottenham Hotspur team photo.

Entry costs £5 for adults, £3 for concessions and £1 for under-16s. Tickets can be bought at the stadium on the day.
