THE Olympic Torch passing through Brentwood will be an event to remember, according to the leader of the borough council.
The Olympic Torch Relay will pass through Herongate and Brentwood tomorrow, on its way to the opening ceremony of the Games on July 27.
Louise McKinlay, leader of Brentwood Council, said: “I’m very excited that the Olympic Torch will be coming through our borough on Friday. And I’m very much looking forward to hosting Tea at the Town Hall for guests before the Torch comes through. “I know this will be a fun day for everyone living in the Brentwood area and an event we will all remember.”
There are a host of free community events and entertainment taking place along the route including at the cricket green in Herongate from 3.30pm until 6.30pm, at Shenfield Common from 4.30pm until 7pm, at Brentwood Cathedral from 4pm until 7pm, music at Wilson’s Corner and at the Old County Ground in Shenfield Road from 1.30pm until 7.30pm.
The events are being made possible with help from a number of voluntary organisations and individual volunteers such as Brentwood, Brentwood a Becket and Brentwood Breakfast Rotary clubs; ThriftGreen Trotters; BADEF and Brentwood Street Pastors; Brentwood Academy Clubs; Brentwood Cathedral; Brentwood School; Herongate and Ingrave Torch Committee, Ford of Britain and BNY Mellon Bank.
