Major delays after person hit by train at Brentwood - UPDATED

Huge delays were caused along the Great Anglia line on Tuesday morning after a person was hit by a train at Brentwood Station.

The man was hit by a Braintree-bound train as it reached the station at about 6.40am.

After a search conducted by British Transport Police officers along the tracks found no body, it was soon discovered the male had managed to walk away.

A spokesman for BTP said: “Officers established shortly after that the man, uninjured, had left the scene and made his way home.

“He has since been detained by officers under the Mental Health Act and taken to a local hospital for assessment.”

Other services on the line were forced to be either cancelled or delayed by up to 90 minutes while emergency services cleared the scene.
