EASTENDERS star June Brown visited a school in Brentwood to film part of a documentary for the BBC.

The actress who plays Dot Cotton in the soap opera was at Ursuline Preparatory School shooting part of a show for the channel’s When I’m 65 series, which will look at the elderly of Britain today.

During the day Brown spoke with pupils who themselves were looking into the lives of older people as the school was holding a Meet the Grandparents event.

Relatives of the students came in and spoke about themselves, part of which was filmed for the documentary as Brown encouraged the children to shoot their own mini clips about their grandparents.

Pauline Wilson, the school’s headteacher, said: “It’s only through sitting down and talking with their grandparents that the children can really begin to see them as people with past lives of their own and not just as grandad or nana.

“This connection is vital for young people today to truly appreciate the older generation, understand about their family history and just take time out to listen and learn from those who might have something important to say.”
