Join in charity dog walk
7:30am Friday 28th September 2012 in News
A KENNEL charity is holding its annual sponsored dog walk in Brentwood on Sunday, September 30.
The Friends of Wallace Kennels are hoping to attract lots of people and their dogs to the event at Weald Country Park, in Weald Road.
The four-mile walk will start at the visitor centre at 10am, and there are short cuts available if the distance is too long.
Last year’s walk saw more than £4,000 raised for the charity.
A spokesman for the charity said they needs lots of help this year.
He said: “There has been a steady decline in the number of walkers over the past few years, whereas the cost of running Wallace Kennels has escalated.
“Strays from Brentwood, Chelmsford, are brought in by the dog wardens and many are not claimed or able to be re-homed often needing expensive vet treatment.
“We would be grateful to anyone coming along either with sponsor forms or just to take part in this walk through pleasant countryside, and perhaps make a small donation and support our stalls where many items of dog equipment, bric-a-brac, books and other items will be on sale.”
There will also be a number of dogs from the kennels at the event looking for a new home.
Sponsorship forms are available from the Countryside Centre Thorndon Park North, the Visitor’s Centre in Weald Park, the Town Hall front desk, or by calling 01277 821737.
