POLICE are warning to make sure their garages are locked-up securely after a spate of burglaries.

Seventeen garages have been broken in to in Wickford since November 1.

The thieves are targeting garages in blocks or at the rear of properties.

Police believed this is because they are away from the main residential building.

Sergeant Angie Torrance, from Basildon Police Station, said: “Police are increasing patrols in the relevant areas but are appealing to residents to check the security of their property.

“We are advising residents to check they have adequate locks on garage doors and to consider marking property.

“This will make it easier for police to identify you as the owner, if stolen property is recovered.

“If you see any suspicious activity or have any relevant information please contact Essex police on 101 or crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
