FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze in an industrial unit in Basildon for more than two hours.

Crews from Basildon, Rayleigh and Leigh were called to the fire in Archers Fields just after 11am today.

Plumes of black smoke could be seen for miles and crews used breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.

They remained at the scene for hours after putting the blaze out to dampen down the site.

It is understood the fire, which is being treated as an accident, started after flames spread from an outdoor burner to nearby trees and then to the unit.
