Five men believed to be armed with a knife and sword confronted a group outside Pitsea railway station.
A stand-off between the two groups came after four men and two women were confronted by the gang near the station entrance.
The incident happened at about 10pm on Saturday, November 14.
Detective Constable David Bishop said: “I am keen for members of the public to help us in identifying the five men in the CCTV images, as they may hold vital information that could help us in our investigation.”
