A burst water main is causing problems in the Wickford area.

Essex and Suffolk Water reported the issue at 8.45am this morning.

A spokesman said: "We are aware of a problem affecting our customers water supply in the Wickford area.

"We have a repair team on site working to resolve the problem. We apologise for the disruption this may cause."

Oakfield Primary School, in Scott Drive, is closed for the day following reports of a burst water main in the area.

UPDATE 2pm: An Essex and Suffolk Water spokesman said: "Essex and Suffolk Water has been dealing with a burst on a large 18 inch cast iron main near Hovefields Avenue in Wickford.

"We have crews on-site still carrying out the repair work and a few properties are still affected with no water supplies in the immediate area of the burst, those customers have been provided with alternative water supplies.

"Essex and Suffolk Water would like to apologise for the disruption to high quality water supplies to some customers’ properties this morning and will have normal service restored as quickly as possible. "
