A campaign has been launched to crack down on nuisance bikers wreaking havoc on a housing estate.

Police and Basildon Council’s antisocial behaviour team are working together to tackle the riders in Kingswood Park and nearby streets after noise complaints from residents.

Families living nearby claim revving engines, screaming and shouting are “frustrating and annoying”.

PC Paul Costin, who is spearheading the campaign, is determined to increase patrols in a bid to cut out the antisocial behaviour.

A dad-of-two, of nearby Gun Hill Place, Basildon, who did not want to be named, said: “We can hear the bikers constantly revving – it drives me crazy.

“It’s a really nice area, but you get one or two idiots who spoil it for everyone. The noise pollution is aggravating and frustrating but I am also concerned my children could get hurt because they are back and forth to school over that field. It is an accident waiting to happen.”

Retired Linda Dale, 69, of Beatty Lane, said : “We go to bed at about 10pm and every night there is this motorbike noise that starts at about half 11. The bikes are continuously up and down, up and down. The other day it lasted until 1.40am.

“It’s really annoying, especially if you are trying to sleep with that noise in your ear.”

PC Costin said: “We are getting reports of scrambler motorbikes, some of them without number plates.

“I am going to do everything I can to address this issue. My PCSOs are going to make houseto- house enquiries so we can get the intelligence from residents as to who these bikers are.

“The increased patrols could enable us to catch them. We are going to take the strongest action against these people if they continue to wreak havoc in the estate.” He said officers can issue written warnings and the bikers could even be forced out of their homes if they are council tenants.

A council spokesman said: “We are aware of the problem and our community warden and the antisocial behaviour team are working closelywith police, to try and resolve the problem.”
