TWELVE people have been left homeless after their homes were flooded.

Firefighters were called to Quebec Road, Tilbury, at 11.40am where five houses had been swamped by water.

The twelve people lived in two of the affected homes.

The officer in charge reported that the worst affected houses had around six inches of water in them.

Firefighters used a pump to remove water from the properties along with an aquavac and mops to clear up standing water.

They had completed their work at the scene by 1pm. The local authority was informed that drains in the road were blocked.
