Man and brother assaulted in unprovoked attack

A MAN and his teenage brother were punched in the face in an unprovoked attack.

The two victims, a 20-year-old man and his 15-year-old brother, were near the Westgate car park in Basildon - near the BP Roundacre garage - when they were set upon.

The thug approached the older man and hit him in the face and chest, before punching his younger brother as he tried to intervene.

The thug then ran off toward the Roundacre underpass.

Witnesses to the attack, which happened at 9am on Tuesday, can contact PC Jaworski at the Basildon area investigation team on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Didn't the council turn the cameras off to save money against the cost of Billericay sporting village?

There have been so many attacks and muggings in this subway area, it's about time that something was done about the crime in this area. There are two cameras protecting the 'animal tunnel' subway, but these are only viewed occasionally. I would be more that happy to see my council tax money being spent on monitored CCTV getting installed in the subways. (They could take some money out of the big pot of cash they are now getting from fines dished out by the cigarette littering protection squad.

I wonder if this unprovoked attack was by a white, middle class gentleman in a pin stripe suit? Only the cameras will tell us. Shall I start a book and quote the odds?
Seriously, for the small cost of having someone look at these cameras, I think this disgraceful Council are putting the local townsfolk at a far greater risk than need be. But, their selfish arrogance will be their undoing. Sooner or later someone will be killed and this mob will be held responsible. People power can and will beat them!

Yes, but the money they make from the motoring criminals will be invested in new security equipment for the town.

really it will!

Oh, and a new mayor's car and chain of office. Haven't wasted money on those for a long while!

It's a wonder the police did't see anything considering how often they're over the Marks and Spencers coffee counter in the garage foecourt. Maybe their glasses were steamed up with the skinny latte steam or smeared with doughnut sugar.....
