THE person hit and killed by a train passing through Chelmsford railway station was a woman from Witham, police have confirmed.
The 53-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at around 9.45pm on Tuesday.
Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been passed to the coroner.
The woman's family has been informed.
The line was closed for several hours while the British Transport Police and paramedics attended the incident.
There were delays of up to an hour until the early hours of this morning [Wednesday].
