THIS year’s Christmas light switch-on will take place on Sunday, November 30.

The event will begin in the High Street at 3pm with music and entertainment from Heart Radio and Father Christmas.

The grand finale at 4.45pm will see the city’s mayor, councillor Bob Villa, and cast members from Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre’s Snow White, switch on the lights, accompanied by a firework display.

Late-night shopping for this year’s festive period will begin on Thursday, December 4, and will take place every Thursday in the run-up to Christmas.

This year for the first time, Chelmsford Council will launch a book of Christmas offers with a discount voucher book to be used in conjunction with shops and restaurants in the city over Christmas.

Councillor Nicolette Chambers said: “Chelmsford's Christmas lights are always stunning.

Every year I look forward to seeing them transform the city into a festive display.

“From the large crowds who attend the switchon every year, it seems a lot of people feel the same way.”
