A CHELMSFORD technology company are celebrating after the Philae robot landed successfully on Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko on Wednesday afternoon.

e2v, who’re based on Waterhouse Lane, were responsible for supplying Rosetta - the name of the satellite which was carrying the robot – with the sensors which has been sending back images to earth.

The comet landing is the first of its kind, and is being talked of as mankinds greatest achievement in space exploration since the first moon landing in 1969.

Scientists hope the mission will help them understand more about the icy rock formations that cruise through the solar system.

e2v tweeted today: “Congratulations @ESA_Rosetta. We are delighted to have been part of such an amazing mission!”
