Residents are being encouraged to get prepared for winter and are invited to a one-stop shop for advice before the cold snap hits.

Essex County Council officers will be in the Atrium at County Hall this Thursday, November 27, to share top tips to help you and your family and neighbours stay safe during the winter season.

Get Ready for Winter is a national campaign which aims to remind people of the importance of being prepared and resilient in the event of severe weather event or an emergency.

A spokesperson said: “It’s really important to be prepared for severe weather or emergencies during the winter months. This is why we are running a local event to raise awareness of this national campaign. Everyone can do simple things to help themselves at home and whilst travelling.

"If you are near County Hall on Thursday do pop by and meet the team for advice and ideas for your own winter preparation and simple things you can do to help vulnerable family members and friends.”

Essex County Council’s Civil Protection and Emergency Management team will be on hand between 10am and 4pm on Thursday outside the library to speak to people and offer advice.

There will also be representatives from the British Red Cross, Community Agents Essex and Essex County Fire & Rescue in attendance. In addition to discussing winter preparation, people will be able to pick up a leaflet detailing how to create emergency ‘grab bags’ and car kits.

People can also take part in our short winter preparedness survey for the chance to win a £50 Marks and Spencer voucher – just in time for Christmas!
