A MAN has been left fighting for his life after a serious crash in Broomfield.

Two cars, a green Peugeot 206 and a black Jaguar X-type, were in collision of the junction of Main Road and Jubilee Avenue at about 2.30pm yesterday.

The driver of the Peugeot, a man in his 60s from the Chelmsford area, was taken to the Royal London Hospital by ambulance with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Main Road was closed for several hours from its junction with White Meads to the Broomfield Hospital roundabout.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Two ambulances, two ambulance officers and the Essex Air Ambulance were dispatched to Main Road (B1008) following a call at 2.36pm on December 15.

“A man thought to be around 60 years old was freed from his car by the fire service and then stabilised before being taken to hospital by land ambulance. Police were also in attendance helping to manage the scene.

“Ambulance officer Steve Keating said: "All three services worked well together to get the patient from the car and stabilise him before being taken to hospital."

“A second patient was treated for minor injuries but was cleared at the scene.”
