A man was taken to hospital with five puncture wounds to his legs after an assault near a Chelmsford park.

Officers and paramedics attended the incident, which happened in Nelson Grove, near Admiral's Park in Chelmsford, at about 9.45pm last night.

The air ambulance was also sent to the scene.

An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment to five puncture wounds to his legs although his injuries are currently not believed to be life-threatening.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Police cordoned off the scene for a forensic investigation and a search and house to house inquiries were carried out.

"No one has been arrested but the investigation is progressing."

An East of England Ambulance spokesman said: "We sent an ambulance which was on scene in four minutes, an ambulance officer, the air ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.

"We took the patient, a male aged 18, to hospital by land ambulance."
