CHELMSFORD artist Grayson Perry joined the Duchess of Cambridge at a school in London to formally open a children’s art studio.

Both are patrons of the charity the Art Room, which is behind the project.

The dedicated art space was opened last week at a west London primary school and will provide creative therapy to children.

For once it wasn’t Kate, who’s six months pregnant, who was the talk of fashion town. It was Grayson, who wore a self-designed short black dress, which he claimed wasa“lady who lunches” outfit.

Grayson is as renowned for his crossdressing as he is his Turner prize-winning art works.

He commented on the Duchess’s fashion choice, saying she was “pretty chic for six months”.

Pupils presented Kate with a small custom-designed chair, perhaps with her son Prince George in mind.

The Duchess then joined Grayson and others in a discussion about the importance of art for children.

The pair were also seen enjoying themselves when the school choir sang their rendition of the Bill Withers classic Lean on Me.

Grayson went on to stress the importance of art, criticising Government policy.

He also called for it to be made an integral part of the curriculum.

He said: “It’s an essential part of life. You shouldn’t think it’s something for posh people.”
