Registration for the Essex Energy Switch, a county wide collective energy switching campaign designed to help Essex residents cut their gas and electricity bills, will close on Monday 2 February 2015.

The initiative has already been hugely successful, attracting thousands of registrations from across the county. However, with just one week remaining, residents are being urged to take advantage of the potential savings offered by the Essex Energy Switch.

Once registration has closed, residents that registered their interest are entered into a collective auction. The auction works by getting energy companies to bid against each other to offer the lowest rate for gas and electricity contracts.

The more people who register, the better the price offered is likely to be, although usage and the amount residents already pay will also play a part in the calculation.

In early 2014, when the first Essex Energy Switch took place, more than 4,500 residents registered and those who switched energy provider made an average saving of over £200.

The initiative is open to residential customers whether homeowners or tenants as well as any small or medium sized business operating within the county.

County Councillor Kevin Bentley, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth & Infrastructure, said: “We’ve had a great response to the Essex Energy Switch so far but there are a few more days left for residents and businesses to sign up.

“It takes less than ten minutes to register, it’s free, there’s no obligation and you could end up saving a lot of money on your gas and electricity.”
