PARENTS and residents have been invited to comment on a proposal to expand a school.
Springfield Primary School, in Forsythia Close, Chelmsford, could get three new classrooms for up to 90 pupils and a bigger car park if a £922,000 project is given the ahead.
Illustrations of proposed elevations and floor plans were shown at a consultation event on Tuesday.
Sharon Tyler, headteacher at Springfield Primary School, said: "We are very excited at the prospect of having three new purpose-built classrooms, as well as group teaching rooms, and look forward to welcoming new children to our friendly school in 2016.
"This new building would definitely enhance our school."
Councillor Ray Gooding, Essex County Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “As we all know, Essex is growing fast and the demand for school places is also increasing.
“We are committed to ensuring that all children are given the best start in life and are planning to spend about £164.5million over the next four years on creating new school places.
“The proposals at Springfield Primary School are very exciting and I would urge residents to have their say by taking part in the consultation process.”
Subject to the consultation, which ends on Friday, it is hoped a planning application will be submitted in April, with work beginning this summer if it is approved.
