GET ready to start rocking and rolling and enjoyanight of entertainment, all while raising money for a good cause.

Energetic band the Rubettes, featuring Bill Hurd, will be playing their greatest hits at the Chelmsford Social Club on Saturday, June 13, as part of a Juke Box Jive gig.

Ben Whitehead, 35, is arranging the event in aid of the Ben White Appeal, which has been set up to raise money for family friend Ben White, 38, pictured below, who broke his back in a skydiving accident seven months ago.

Mr Whitehead, of Haltwhistle Road, South Woodham Ferrers, said: “I sit next to Ben’s Dad, Colin, at football as we are Southend United season ticket holders and have known each other for years.

“ This accident touched my heart and prompted me to set this event up and raise whatever money I can to help renovate Ben’s home to make it more habitable for him since his accident.

“We want to try to raise some money to assist him in the continuation of renovating his gome to accommodate his paralysis.

“I have two bands on – Quo-Incidence, who are a Status Quo tribute act, will open proceedings at 7.30pm to get everyone in the party mood!

“Then, the legendary Rubettes will take to the stage at 9.15pm.

“The Rubettes are a very famous band from the Seventies, and had hit after hit, including platinum-selling number one smash Sugar Baby Love in 1974.

“They will sing all of their classics, including Sugar Baby Love, Juke Box Jive, I Can Do It and Tonight.

“There will also be a raffle, with all proceeds going to the appeal.”

Doors open at 6.30pm and the show starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets to Juke Box Jive are now on sale, priced at £17.50, with concessions priced at £15.
