Thousands of school pupils across the East of England are set to benefit from advice on higher education from expert Anglia Ruskin University staff.

University remains an incredibly popular aspiration for young people across the region and Anglia Ruskin’s Roadshow bus will set off on June 3 for a seven-week tour which will take in Essex, Cambridgeshire and part of East London, taking in Chelmsford, Redbridge and Harlow during its first week.

A survey amongst pupils visited last year revealed that they were 20% more confident in their knowledge of Higher Education after they had seen the bus than before, and 33% more confident they knew about Anglia Ruskin University as an option for them.

The double-decker bus will be packed with resources designed to arm young people with the information needed to make informed decisions about their future as they prepare for the next step. It will contain information on student finance, university life and advice about the application process. Expert staff will be on hand to answer any questions.

Rachel Nedwell, Head of Outreach and Recruitment at Anglia Ruskin University, said: “Last year, we were proud to visit 65 schools and colleges across the region, working with over 5,400 students.

"Despite concerns in the media about the impact of higher tuition fees, we have found that an overwhelming number of students understand the benefits of going to university and are keen to hear from our experts about our courses and applying.

“University offers much more than just a qualification to improve your chances of a good job.

"It helps develop social skills, offers new experiences, links with industry and a chance to learn so much more than just the course you choose.

"Feedback from school staff from our last tour was extremely positive, with 100% rating the Roadshow experience as excellent or good. We are keen to uphold this level of service to the young people again this year.

“We appreciate that choosing a course and a university is a big decision and the Roadshow bus has information on all facets of student life and a chance to quiz our expert staff.”
