Drivers are urged to leave more time to complete their journeys through Chelmsford next month as work is set to begin on the Broomfield Road/Patching Hall Lane junction.

Highways engineers will be improving the B1008 in Chelmsford to add additional vehicle capacity and increase the flow of traffic.

The work will involve upgrading existing traffic islands and lights at the junction of Broomfield Road and Patching Hall Lane.

Better quality, anti-skid surfaces will be then be laid on the widened carriageway to ensure safety for drivers at the busy intersection.

Scheduled to take around four months to complete, the work will begin on Monday 13 July.

Temporary traffic signals will be manually controlled during peak times to minimise congestion and signs will be put up to help local residents and businesses plan alternative routes while the work is carried out.

Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Maintenance and Small Schemes, Cllr Eddie Johnson, said: “While there will be some single lane closures which will inevitably slow the traffic, we are trying hard to keep disruption to a minimum by controlling traffic manually at the busiest times of the day.

"However, I would advise drivers to allow more time to complete their journeys in this area of the city.”
