Children were captivated by the stories of an older generation when they visited the Lyon's Court Residential Home for UK Older People's Day.

Springfield Primary School pupils visited residents at the home in Canvey Walk, Chelmsford, and were delighted to hear tales of the second world war.

Resident Jack Quinlan, 92,  proudly shared his story and showed off the medal he received last year when he was appointed to the rank of ‘Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur’ for his military engagement and his steadfast involvement in the Liberation of France during the Second World War.

Jack said: “I had a lovely time celebrating Older People’s Day and it was excellent to see the children and tell them about my story, I especially loved showing everyone my medal as I am very proud and honoured to receive it.”

The Sanctuary Care home’s manager Rebecca Dunn added: “UK Older People’s Day is very close to our hearts and we are delighted to have celebrated our residents with the next generation by giving them the recognition they deserve – I hope all the pupils enjoyed hearing their stories.”
