THE mum of a mind-reading magician who wowed the judges on Britain’s Got Talent says she is “really proud” of his achievement.

Richard Jones, 25, who is originally from South Woodham Ferrers, is a member of the Household Cavalry.

He also spends his time entertaining at weddings and corporate events.

But the former Parachute Regiment Band member could hit the big time after blowing the minds of star judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon on Saturday night's prime-time talent show.

"It's always been a dream to perform on the Royal Variety Show and meet the Queen in person," he told them, before astonishing the audience with an act that combined David Beckham, mind-reading, origami and turning a can of orange pop into hot tea before their disbelieving eyes.

He is now hoping to go all the way - and fulfil his ambition of meeting the Queen at the Royal Variety Show.

Richard appeared in the paper in 2012 after raising £1,000 by busking in the snow for cerebral palsy sufferer George Balding.

His mum Chris, 57, said Richard picked up his love of magic after being taken to shows as a boy.

She said: “We took him to a couple of magic shows when he was young and got him a magic set.

“A lot of children are interested in magic. He used practice on friends and practice on us.”

The family watched Richard’s performance together on Saturday night.

But Chris admitted she will be a “nervous wreck” if he makes it through to the live shows.

“He would love to win it but there is a lot of talent this year,” she said.

It is the second time Richard has tried to audition for the show after having to miss out last year when the second round clashed with passing out parade for the Household Cavalry.
