A stone which damaged a car on the A12 and left the occupants 'very shaken' may have been thrown from a bridge overlooking the road.
Police are appealing for witnesses after a stone hit a silver Honda Civic driving towards London on the A12 near Ingatestone.
The windscreen of the car was damaged during the incident, which happened at about 2.40pm on Tuesday, May 17.
Officers are now investigating whether the stone was thrown from the bridge which overlooks the carriageway.
A police spokesman said: "The driver and his passenger were not injured but were left very shaken after the incident.
"Officers would like to hear from anybody who may have witnessed anybody acting suspiciously in the area or on the bridge around the time of the incident."
Anybody that can help is asked to call Pc Thomas Buchanan at Brentwood on Essex Police 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
