GET ready for a night of laughter as Chelmsford City Racecourse plays host to one of television's Grumpy Old Men.

Arthur Smith, who was in the television series Grumpy Old Men, will be bringing his unique style of comedy to Chelmsford when he headlines the show at the racecourse on Friday, May 27.

Although known for his time on the popular show Arthur has also worked as the narrator of the A Life of Grime television programme and made other television appearances in Red Dwarf, Nightcap and BBC sitcom Married.

He currently works as a radio presenter on shows such as BBC 4's Excess Baggage and Loose Ends.

He will be joined by Nico Yearwood, who will be MC for the evening.

A spokesman for the show said: "Nico is originally from the Caribbean island of Barbados; he delivers his material in natural conversational style infused with the melodic Bajan accent.

"Despite his laid back demeanour, the laughs come at a relentless pace making him a definite crowd pleaser."

The evening will be opened by comedy magician El Baldinho, who is often described as "larger than life" and one of the more versatile acts on the comedy circuit.

Also joining the gang of funny men on stage is Matthew Giffen, presenter of BBC 3's show The Fear.

The show spokesman added: "Matthew Giffen gives a Colombian/Irish/Englishman perspective on the world and why you have to try a Japanese toilet!

"An upbringing on a staple diet of cocaine and potatoes will take its toll, come and see what you end up with."

Tickets for the show are £15, basket meals are available for £25 and members received 20 per cent off.
