ANOTHER park in Chelmsford has been awarded Keep Britain Tidy’s prestigious Green Flag status.

Springfield Hall Park, situated in the middle of Chelmer Valley Nature Reserve is now the borough’s twelfth green space to win the award.

It is judged by experts who assess sites against criteria including horticultural standards, cleanliness and sustainability.

Councillor Bob Massey, Chelmsford City Council’s cabinet member for parks, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive another Green Flag Award from Keep Britain Tidy.

“I am very proud of the hard work and dedication of the council’s parks staff and volunteers. “They keep our parks to the highest standard all year round so that residents can enjoy being outside in beautiful surroundings.

“Springfield Hall is the twelfth of our parks to receive a Green Flag Award, which recognises that people in Chelmsford are benefiting from green spaces of the very highest quality.”

It was recognised among 1,686 green spaces in England and Wales for the award on Thursday July 21.

Home to Springfield Football Club, it hosts matches and training sessions, as well as regular cycle events, and is also popular with dog walkers.

There is also a children’s play area and fishing is available on the river.
