A BUBBLY university cheerleading squad is facing the axe, unless a new sponsor can be found to save it.
After recently being dropped by its previous backer, the outlook for the Anglia Ruskin Sirens is grim.
The university, in Bishops Hall Lane, Chelmsford, could also withdraw the squad’s funding in September so the pressure is on to find a sponsor, otherwise the group’s fate will be sealed.
The Sirens’ committee is doing all it can to keep the squad running but it is now appealing for any businesses or individuals to come forward to save it.
Fresher Melissa Wright, 18, is a member of the squad and studies paediatric nursing at the Chelmsford campus.
She said: “I love this squad with all my heart and it brings me to tears to think we might have to shut down.”
If you can help save the Sirens call Kirsten Sage on 07825 770173.
