TWO drug addicts have been given a chance to sort out their problems by a judge.

A court heard on Monday that stolen bikes were found at the Chelmsford home of Leslie and Karen Harvey.

Other electrical items which had been stolen in a burglary were also found to have their fingerprints on them.

Chelmsford Crown Court also heard police found small quantities of heroin and crack cocaine on 31-year-old Karen Harvey when she was searched later.

The couple, of Nelson Grove, Chelmsford, were both given nine-month drug treatment orders after they admitted a series of charges.

Leslie Harvey, 31, admitted two burglaries and another charge of handling stolen goods.

Karen Harvey also admitted the handling charge, two charges of possessing drugs and another charge of stealing £5 worth of sweets from WH Smith, in Chelmsford.

The court heard seven bikes had been stolen from sheds at properties in Rookes Crescent and Crompton Street in Chelmsford in June.

Some of the bikes were found at the couple’s address and later, their fingerprints were discovered on more stolen property.

Police found electrical items including games consoles and a video camera in a garage and checks revealed they had been stolen in a burglary, the court heard.

Barristers for the couple said they were both trying hard to get off drugs, but needed help.

Recorder Giles Eyre warned the pair they could be jailed if they did not stick to their drug orders.

They were also told to take part in a substance abuse programme and given 12 months supervision.
