WITNESSES who may have seen a woman attack a couple after a minor prang are being urged to come forward.

An 18-year-old man from Braintree and his girlfriend were assaulted after their Renault Clio was involved in a minor collision with a white Ford Transit van in Baddow Road, Chelmsford at around 1pm on Thursday June 12.

Both parties left their vehicles and the female passenger of the transit attacked the couple, leaving them needing treatment by paramedics for facial injuries.

She then got back into the vehicle, which was driven off.

Investigating officer PC Dave Scott said: "This incident happened between the BP petrol station and the Dolphin and right outside number 450. As this happened at lunchtime on a busy road we are pretty certain people would have seen the spectacle and so therefore we would like to speak to them.

"We are not prepared for people to assault others over a minor matter and get away with it."

The van had the letters UV in the last section of its registration plate and had an amber light on its roof.

The suspect is described as in her 30s, 5ft 5ins tall. She wore a pink top and flip flops at the time and had her shoulder length hair tied in a high pony tail.

The driver of the van was a white male in his 40s. Both spoke with Irish accents.

Anyone with information should contact officers at Chelmsford Road Policing Unit on 01245 240600.
