Cash needed for skatepark redevelopment
3:00pm Thursday 8th November 2012 in Local news
SKATERS need to raise £10,000 to complete the next redevelopment stage of facilities at King George’s Palying Fields.
The Brentwood Skatepark Association, set up in 2011 with the support of Brentwood Council, are trying to raise the cash to build a “street” section of the skateboarding area.
Money for the project needs to be raised by the end of this year if the section is to be ready in time for next spring.
Councillors from each political party at Brentwood have already pledged their support for the idea, including Mark Reed (Tory), David Kendall (LibDem) and Julie Morrissey (Lab).
In a joint statement, the councillors said: “This is entirely non-political as we all know what a great asset the skatepark is, and we are all proud of how well the independent Brentwood Skatepark Association has progressed this project.
“The Association wants to urgently raise £10,000 so we are asking for 100 people to each give £50, and we are personally getting the ball rolling with our own donations.
“We are also looking for a local company or wealthy individual to match this, which would bring in the £10,000 needed to complete phase two.”
