A CRAZY golf course in a Brentwood park is set for a major overhaul after councillors approved plans.

Members of Brentwood Council’s planning committee approved a proposal to transform the current miniature golf area in King George VI Playing Fields into an 18 hole adventure golf course.

Plans put forward by PGA professional Stephen Cole will see course which has fallen into disrepair ripped out and turned into the Lost Island Adventure Golf.

The semi-educational course will feature four zones; Shipwreck, Jungle, Desert and Jurassic; with players urged to search for the Captain Jack character. Each hole will have an individual feature like a volcano, sand mounds and dinosaur eggs to navigate.

Speaking after permission was granted, Mr Cole said he was happy the council had approved the plan but added there is more work to do before construction can start.

Mr Cole said: “I am pleased to see the plans get over the planning permission hurdle and I hope what we have planned will get the course looking good again.

“However, there are still a few other hurdles to get over before any work begins so we’ll be concentrating on those for now.”

A 2.4m high perimeter fence and a kiosk will also be erected as part of the plans. The proposals received positive back from the majority of councillors on the planning committee, although some did raise questions about car parking provision.

David Tee, Conservative member for Warley ward, said: “The crazy golf course that is there presently is in need of being refurbished.

“When I went over the summer to the park I saw people on BMX bikes riding through the course while others tried to play crazy golf so I do think security measures are important.

“The changes may well be successful and I hope they are but we must be mindful about the car parking.”
