A POSTMAN in Brentwood has been sacked for holding onto post he was suppose to deliver.
Following an investigation by Royal Mail, at their delivery depot in Brentwood, it was found the employee had been intentionally holding onto post.
He was forced to leave with affected customers receiving a letter addressed from Michael Tattam, the delivery office manager, apologising for the incident.
Bosses at Royal Mail said they take a “zero tolerance” approach to dishonesty from staff.
A spokeswoman said: “The delayed mail has been delivered to customers with a covering letter explaining the delay and telling them who to contact should they require further information.
“It is a criminal offence to tamper with or delay the delivery of mail and anyone caught doing so will face serious disciplinary measures.
“Royal Mail will always seek to prosecute the tiny minority of people who abuse their position of trust.”
