A CAMPAIGN has begun calling on double yellow lines near a Tesco store in Hutton to be extended.

Councillors have launched the petition asking the South Essex Parking Partnership to get the lines outside Tesco Express in Hanging Hill Lane moved further up the road.

They feel the current set up is not long enough and causing danger to motorists as people use the shop.

Hutton Central councillor John Kerslake, Tory, said: "People are stopping outside the store to use the cashpoint, instead of parking in the carpark at the rear.

"This makes it dangerous for drivers to see round the bend."

Support for the campaign has been given by residents including Eric Lowe who feels a bad accident may happen unless action is taken soon.

Mr Lowe said: "The petition will help us get the message across that something needs to be done before someone gets hurt."

Anyone interested in signing the petition should contact either Mr Kerslake on 07785 770941 or Mr Lowe on 07801 946965.
