A CAR lover has been left "devastated" after a sports car was stolen from his home.

Crooks took the silver-coloured Caterham Convertable from the property's driveway in Hook End Road, Hook End, between 7pm on Monday and 6.30am on Tuesday.

It is thought by investigating officers as the vehicle's battery was flat and the steering wheel was not attached at the time it may have been pushed to a trailer and taken away.

The owner of the car, who wished to stay anonymous, said he was very upset.

He said: "I loved driving it whenever the sun was shining and the roads were dry, but it has to be treated with respect as it's very powerful.

"It's a true enthusiast’s car. The thieves obviously came prepared as I had removed the detachable steering wheel.

"I'm hoping someone has information that can assist the police so I'll get it back."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Sgt Paul Ballard at Brentwood police station on 101 or anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
