A CAMPAIGN has been set up to keep a pub in South Weald after it closed last week.
Doors were locked at the Tower Arms in Weald Road and a sign saying "Closed for redevelopment" put up.
Concerns have been raised about the future of the building with rumours it may become a home.
Ward councillor Ann Coe, who is also chairman of Brentwood Council's planning committee, has launched a petition calling on the pub to remain as it is.
Mrs Coe, a Conservative, said: "The pub is steeped in history and it could be a real gem for the local community.
"I want to protect it as a pub as far as I can for future generations and I know many residents share this view."
