SIZZLING hot action is set to take place at Brentwood Centre next month when people walk barefoot over searing hot embers.

Almost 100 people are due to participate in the Brentwood Firewalk night organised by Bennetts Funeral Directors, based in High Street, Brentwood, which is raising money for charity.

Walkers will have to go over a strip of wooden embers at the Doddinghurst Road-venue reaching in the region of 1,000 farhenheit or more with no protection on their feet.

The aim of the game is to be as nimble on your feet as possible with co-organiser Chris Froebel saying the event has had a lot of interest.

Mr Froebel said: “So far we have about 42 names down to do it but we know from people we have spoken to but have just not finished the application form that we could have at least 85 people doing it.

“With this in mind we are now looking to try and get more than 100 participating.”

Mr Froebel will be one of the walkers braving the heat on the night.

He said preparing for it has been a bit difficult although he is very excited.

“I am looking forward to it,” the 30-year-old said.

“It does sound a bit scarry but I don’t think I’ve really had time to become apprehensive about the event.

“Training is impossible really as it is not like something you can lay out on your carpet at home and try, so it will be a case of just doing it and hoping you’ll be alright on the night.”

Entry costs £15 per person and is open to anyone aged 14 and above, although participants aged under 18 require parental consent.
