A WOMAN from Hutton had cash stolen from her handbag as part of a distraction burglary scam.

On Friday, June 6, two men knocked on the door of a house in Cedar Road at around 1pm and said they were there about the roof.

The victim paid them £300 for the work to be completed but whilst she was deliberately distracted they stole a sum of cash from her handbag and left the premises.

Police officers in Brentwood are now warning residents to be wary of people knocking on doors offering to do building or garden work.

Dc Patrick Snape is appealing for anyone who may remember seeing a white van and the two men who are described as white, one of average height, with blonde hair and a fair complexion. The victim did not properly see the second man.

Dc Snape said: "There have been three other distraction burglary offences in different parts of Brentwood in the last month and I urge the public to be cautious about who they let inside their home."
