OVER 40 Brentwood school children received prestigious Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards at a special ceremony.

In total, 42 students from six secondary schools were recognised for a variety of achievements after being nominated by their peers.

Winners included Daisy Benson, 12, from Becket Keys Church of England School. Daisy was nominated by over half of the school for her commitment to ensuring every student has a sense of self-esteem and encouraging them to succeed.

Another winner was Ciera McGuire, 13, from St Martin’s School. She was diagnosed with diabetes earlier this year and has taken it in her stride by continuing to play sport without making a fuss.

Both girls, along with the other winners, were presented with a medal, certificate and a £200 cheque.

The awards scheme recognises the achievements of youngsters across Essex and London, and has awarded £789,000 to youth organisations in Brentwood since funding started in 2002.
