A CHARITY ball hosted by Brentwood salon Spargo Hairdressing raised a massive £5,500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Essex County NHS Hospitals raidiotherapy and chemo ward.

Held at Stock Brook Manor Golf Club, 150 guests enjoyed dinner, drinks and entertainment before an auction took place where items such as a singed Lionel Messi boot and One Direction montage were on offer.

The ball makred the 10th anniversary since owner Ian Marshall opened the salon on Weald Road.

Great Ormand Street was chosen after Ian recently lost a sister, and another member of his family was treated there.

Organisers Julie Day and Rhian Holmwood said: “Many people owe their lives to these hospitals and we are so thrilled to be able to help them continue to keep up to date and functioning well.”
