FUNDRAISERS raised £2,000 for a cancer charity after taking part in a sponsored night walk in aid of a 20-year-old woman battling cervical and ovarian cancer.

Rhyanne Griffiths was diagnosed with cervical cancer in May last year.

By the time the cancer was detected, it had spread to her ovaries. It’s now also spread to one of her kidneys.

Rhyanne has been through chemotherapy and had several operations to remove tumours, but she says: “Every time they seem to be able to treat the cancer, they find it has spread to somewhere else.”

Inspired by her bravery, Rhyanne’s sisters Kelly, 37, and Kara, 28, and her sister-in-law Hayley, 27, all from Laindon, took part in the Shine Night Walk, in London at the weekend, which saw them raise £2,000 for Cancer Research.

Despite her illness Rhyanne was determined to watch her sisters cross the finish line in the capital. She said: “I’m so proud of them, to see them finish was amazing.”

Rhyanne, who now lives in Brentwood, is in the process of drafting a petition to stop what she called NHS ignorance when it comes to diagnosing younger women with certain cancers.

She also hopes to one day form her own foundation to support other cancer patients and their families which would offer smear and other diagnosis tests to younger patients who request them.
