MOTORISTS are advised to avoid the A12 Colchester-bound near Witham while engineers carry out a bridge inspection after it was struck by a lorry carrying a crane earlier this afternoon.
Police are assisting the closure on the northbound carriageway at Junction 21, after the collision which happened at about 3pm.
Traffic will be diverted off the slip road and back on to the on slip at Junction 21.
The inspection will be carried out on behalf of the Highways Agency following the incident when a crane fitted to a lorry struck the bridge.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area as queues are expected while inspection work is carried out.
The road is expected to be closed for another hour.
