A teenager has reached new heights by climbing Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons to achieve his Gold Duke of Edinburgh award.
George Wingrove, 18, was presented with his award in an assembly at Brentwood School, where he is a sixth form student.
He took part in the expeditions as part of his work towards the award and also volunteered with local charity SNAP, undertook a six-day Combined Cadet Force Leadership course, played football for Brentwood Athletic and played trombone in the Brentwood School Big Band.
He said: “I am very proud to have achieved my Gold award. I have put a lot of time and effort into doing so and have experiences that I would otherwise not have. I saw the DofE to the end simply because it became more enjoyable.”
Headmaster Ian Davies commented: “It is rare for a pupil to be presented with the Gold DofE badge whilst still at School and George’s excellent achievement should be celebrated.”
