A horse sanctuary will be opening its doors to the public for this first time.

Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary, in Ingatestone, will welcome members of the public to its grounds on May 3.

During the open day visitors will be able to meet many of the animals who have a second chance at life thanks to the kindness of the staff at the rescue centre, including Dante, a foal who was dumped at the sanctuary entrance in January, Dolly the sheep, who escaped from an abattoir and Bramble the horse, who had been tethered up for 23 years before coming to the sanctuary.

Sue Burton, founder of the Sanctuary, said: “We love inviting the public to come and visit the sanctuary and we always have such a great time showing off our premises and our amazing animals and giving people an insight into the valuable work that we do.”

Entertainment including competitions and games, live music from local band Midnight Blu, refreshments and raffles will be held throughout each open day.

Parking is available on site, with disabled access, and dogs on leads are also welcome.

Entry is £4 per adult and free for children and the site will be open between 1pm and 5pm.
